If not flying with ATC, use the VNAV feature. Enter the altitude restrictions in the published procedures next to each STAR waypoin. Also enter the final approach fix altitude.
The G3000 will calculate the top of descent and rate of descent.
The TOD will be displayed on the map. The VNAV carrots will appear on the PFD when the aircraft is near the TOD. A TOD message will flash on the PFD 1 minute prior to TOD.

If flying with ATC, set the altitude when you are instructed to descent. The altitude is given by ATC.
If not flying with ATC, set the altitude of the final approach fix or the altitude of the runway + 500.

If MDA (Minimum Descent Altitude in QNH) set it to Baro.
